Specifications

Sink, cooktop and fridge sit on a triangle. Each leg runs 1200 to 1800 mm. Shorter and the room is cramped; longer and every meal becomes a walk.

The kitchen wall seen straight on: counter at 850 – 900 mm, a 550 mm gap to the wall units, wall units to 2100 mm and a loft above them. The chimney hangs 650 – 750 mm over the hob — closer and you knock your head, further and it stops pulling the smoke.

Counter sockets sit about 250 mm above the platform: above the splash, below the wall units. Switches at 1200 – 1300 mm, a point above the hood for the chimney, one under the sink for the RO, and a 300 mm point for the fridge. Points are marked after the appliances are decided, never before.

Vastu

South-east — the Agni corner. North-west is the usual alternative.

Cook facing east where the layout allows it.
Sink and hob kept apart rather than side by side: water and fire are not placed together.
Avoid the north-east corner for the kitchen.
Fridge to the south-west; heavy storage against the south or west wall.
