The bed centred on a solid headboard wall, with at least 600 mm clear on both sides. With a 600 mm wardrobe on the side wall, a 3500 mm room fits a queen bed; a king-size frame needs a room about 3800 mm wide.

Bedside points at 600 – 750 mm, reachable lying down, and a two-way switch at the bed as well as at the door so nobody crosses a dark room. TV point at 900 – 1200 mm. The switchboard is placed after the furniture layout is final, or it ends up behind a wardrobe door.

Vastu

South-west for the master bedroom.

  • Bed placed so the head points south or east while sleeping.
  • Heavy wardrobes against the south or west wall.
  • Mirrors not facing the bed.
  • Avoid a beam directly over the bed; box it into the ceiling if there is one.
